Ouran Wallpaper: Accidental Kiss

Here’s is a wallpaper I made of Tamaki and Haruhi’s accidental Kiss. I decide to go with the feel of ice-cream. I don’t really know why — perhaps because it’s summer and ice-cream would be great right now.

Mock-up Gallery for Displaying Wallpaper

Here’s what I have so far.

Most of the wallpaper I make is in widescreen format, so the vertical menu would not work as well as a horizontal menu.  The question is which technology shall I use.  I can make effects easier with Flash, but if I use Javascript, then I can make it more extendable and automated.  I think in this case, I will try the javascript approach and have some fun playing with visibility.  For selection, I will do a simple border.  It should be a nice exercise.  I will start planning the code tomorrow.

Hitachiin Brothers Wallpaper

Here are two Hitachiin Brothers wallpapers:

Color: 1600×1200
Color: 1920×1200
B/W: 1600×1200

The foreground is two images from the manga that I scanned, threshholded and then added color and effects.   I made the background pattern in Illustrator.   The flowers and the butterflies are purchased from iStockPhoto.  I rasterized them and added color and some effects.  I like this wallpaper a lot because purple is my favorite color.

Arakure Wallpaper Featuring Rakuto Dancing

Yikes! This took 4-days to do (I spent ~8-hrs/day on this). But it’s done!

Here’s are the scanned source images:

The top image is two pages stitched together and repaired where the two pages met.  The second image was altered to fit as much of the dancing boy as possible and to maximized the expression on the girl’s face.  I did both images separately and then merged them in the end.  The actual psd file is huge and I ran out of memory during the final save, so I had to close and open Photoshop to clear the scratch so I could bring the resolution down to 72-ppi.   I also saved a 300ppi version so I can print a nice sized poster if I want to.

More Ouran Wallpaper

Here’s some more Ouran wallpaper.  This is a composite of two images.  I had to clean up some of the screening used to create shadows on the original drawing.  I used a masked layers to create Haruhi blush, the gradient background and to fade in the second image in the lower right corner.

Lovely ZHD Wallpaper

Here’s the second “Zettai Heiwa Daisakusen” wallpaper.  I had to do a lot of prep work on the original to get it ready for color.  The original was on two separate pages with a blank gap that was never drawn.  I had to match up the pages and then exapolate the missing artwork in the gap.  Here’s what the original after repair looked like:

Here’s what the finished image looks like.  I did some additional repair and figured out a stupid Photoshop trick to easily add moonlight.

Ouran Wallpaper Featuring Haruhi!

As I post this, I realize that I have no where on any of my formal websites to display this stuff. Yeeks, I’ll figure out something by the end of the week. Anyhow, here’s the Haruhi wallpaper. I like this image of her with sheep (mostly because I adore sheep). So I made the image to look like it was cut out of paper.  Here’s the original image:

This was tough because the image quality was very poor from the original manga magazine.

Wallpaper Completed

I had to take the image into Fireworks to work with items I imported easier.  I purchased a couple doily drawings from iStockPhoto and a floral flourish to complete the look.

I also made a wide screen version for TV, laptops, and wide screen monitors.

Yippee!  All of these files will be made available in the goodies section of the Zettai Heiwa Daisakusen on Omari’s Sister Translations.

Using the Ladybug

Here is some wallpaper I made for my little iPhone using the ladybug I made earlier this week.  I made the leaves tonight.

I’ve always liked ladybugs with “farm checks” in the background, so I did a few different versions to see how it would look.  I’m still playing with the construction paper look and this looks very cut out.  The leaves sorta look like the veins were drawn with a fat Sharpy.   It looks like bad craft after eating too much paste — haha!!!  I think, though, when combined with the farm checks, it’s cute.  Feel free to grab them if you want.
